Unconscious Places is the title photographer Thomas Struth (pupil of Bernd & Hilla Becher) has given to the section of his street photography. These are images of streets from all over the world, spanning almost four decades, gathered here for the first time in a large selection. As the title suggests, these are not the grand boulevards, tourist attractions, or promenades with which major cities typically adorn themselves, but rather streets that pedestrians, and perhaps especially locals, perceive more subconsciously than consciously.
